I have approx 50 users logging into a windows 2012 R2 RDS server, using user profile disks. I have turned on outlook cached mode for my exchange users, and have the space set asside to allow them to cache their mailbox. All of that is working fine, however, the search indexing process never finishes. It seems to restart itself every time they log on/log off the server... I can't find another solution other than to disable instant search, which leaves the clunky searching built into the server-side. Anyone else run into this?

Weird Problem Shared folders using access based enumeration Window Server 2012R2
Got a wired problem.
I have setup some shared folders using Access Based Enumeration on s 20012R2 server.
Client computers are Windows 7 Enterprise
It works as advertised as the user only sees the folders they have rights to.
The problem is my users cannot copy from their desktop and paste into the shared folder.
They get an error saying that "S:\ refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer...". They also cannot create a new file (say a .txt file) by right clicking in Windows Explorer
But they CAN launch Word, create a new document and save it to the shared folder just fine.
They can also modify files and delete files on the shared folder.
Does anybody have any ideas what's up with this.
Thanks,
Paul
DNS BPA error Server 2012
My BPA is giving me two errors, DNS:Zone Trust Anchors secondary servers must respond to queries for the zone. and DNS Server on Ethernet should include the loopback address but not as the first entry.
First I only have one DNS server. Second when I try to find what it thinks is the secondary server it seems to be pointing to the only server I have. Why does it think I have a secondary server? Can someone help me figure out how to make it only point to one server again?
2012 R2 RDS Server issues
I am trying to set up 2 2012 R2 remote desktop servers. We currently have 2 2003 Terminal Servers, so I am trying to do one at a time. I tried to install this the manual way, and the quick session way and am getting several errors once installed. The main errors are 1280 Remote Desktop Services failed to join the Connection Broker on server , 2056 The Remote Desktop Connection Broker server could not enumerate the targets for the provider named NULL from the database. and 20499 Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server "server" for user "user". I have Googled this to death today and have not really found a clear answer to any one of the issues.
NTFS Permissions / Inheritance / Shares - Best Practices?
At my organization, I am looking to go through our file servers and correct the sins of the past. Mostly, we are a windows shop - our file servers are 2008 R2.
At some point along the way, the basically ended up with the NTFS ACL being Everyone, Full Control at the top level. A majority of the folders under the top level are inheriting this. Any folder / file (I do believe that some files have explicit ACLs on them) that need to be restricted, break inheritance and have users and / or groups assigned the necessary permissions to prevent general browsing for sensitive data.
I have 2 questions here -
1. If I go to the root of this drive on the server, and create a new folder - the default permissions have System and Administrator with full control, Authenticated Users have Modify and SERVER\Users have Read (Read & Execute, List, Read). Is...
backup schedule for single files/folders in Windows Server 2008
I need to create a backup schedule for a few select files/folders in Windows Server 2008. The Windows Server Backup tool for Windows Server 2008 seems to only allow the option of backing up the whole server or volumes on the server.
Does anyone know of any ways I can daily auto backup only select files and folder on Windows Server 2008?
Server 2012 R2 Error 0x80073701
For the first time in a long time I am completely stumped by this one; I cannot install any features what-so-ever. Every feature fails at 44% with the following error: "The referenced assembly could not be found. Error: 0x80073701" I have scoured the internet for 3 straight days and can not find anything that will work. Re-building this server is not an option at all because of the softwars we rely on. I am really hoping someone has some experience with this one! *I can install Roles, just not features, too include Roles that have associated features as part of the install.

RestartManager warnings on Windows Server 2012 R2
We've just recently started installing new Windows Server 2012 R2 servers and moving our applications over to them.
I'm seeing lots of Warnings in our Application event logs in every server, around the time that each server is rebooted, Source: RestartManager, Event ID: 10010.

WDS Capture Image - winload.exe corrupt or missing
Seemingly out of the blue our WDS server has developed a very annoying issue with a capture image that up until today was working perfectly previously. What we are now experiencing when we network boot and then select the "Capture" boot image is an error that states:
"Windows failed to start. A recent software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:"
It then lists three items spanning from "Insert you windows disc and restart your computer" to "Click repair your computer" The main thing of note here is that it states "File \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe status 0xc000000f The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors."
I've tried created a brand new capture image (several of them actually) and all of them produce the same results. Does anyone have an incite into this...
Cannot DFS Replicate between 2003R2 server and 2012R2 Cluster
I have an older file server running Windows 2003 R2 that we're getting ready to retire. I'm trying to move its shares onto a failover cluster of two 2012 R2 file servers (using file server roles) via DFS replication.
I created a folder in DFS and added both the new and old servers to that, and then created a replication group between them. However, replication is not happen. On the cluster node that's currently hosting the file server resource, I'm getting an error 1722 (The RPC server is unavailable) for the replication group.
I've checked the 2003R2 server, and both the DFSR and RPC services are running, and the appropriate services are allowed in the Windows Firewall on that server. Additionally, the cluster node is able to ping the old server without any issues, and there is another file server role on the cluster that is able to...
Printers are lost when using Terminal Servers
Hello,
Our company uses some PC's and some Thin Clients, the Thin Clients connect to servers running Windows Server 2008. When printing they connect to a print server which runs Server 2012
The problem we are getting atm is that some users when logging onto a Terminal Server are finding that thier mapped printers have disappeared and if you try to re-connect to the printer in question via the print server again you get a very non specific error message.
If the user logs off and onto a different Terminal Server thier printers will display, it is totally random, we have multiple Terminal Servers that the clients connect to and there seems to be no reason as to why the clients lose thier printers.
If anyone has any thoughts that would be appreciated.
GOT to be a "cure" for this (SLOW network file xfer speeds/Windows)
ok, so spent the last few days, hours on end, trying to figure out why it's taking forever and a day to transfer @1TB of data from a public drive currently residing on a physical HP server, win2008r2, to a recently fired up virtual windows 2012 r2 file server.
Without going into specifics on both physical box and the esxi host, let's assume hardware is not the problem because from a drive perspective, cpu, ram, etc...there is no way either is the bottleneck. we are talking excessive amounts of un-utilized ram, cpu power, 15k sas drives/RAID 1+0, etc... Also, it's a Gigabit network across the board.
I have literally tried EVERYTHING reputable online (e.g. nic drivers, settings) and nothing works. Every time the transfer starts off blazing fast (maybe 80-90MB/sec and slows to a crawl under 10mb/Sec. To be sure it wasn't an esxi issue I...
Windows 8.1 Mapped Drives Disconnecting From Server 2012
I have scoured the internet and have been unable to find a solution for this so I am here at the handy Spiceworks!
So we have an entire office having the same issues with the mapped drives dropping connection at random times, since we updated from Windows 7. We have attempted to uninstall/reinstall nic drivers, usb Dongle to bypass internal nic. We also tried a couple other things here and its driving us all bonkers...Any Help Would be greatly appreciated.
if this helps we are using HP dc7900 computers

Mac OS X dropping SMB connection
Hi,
I have a Macbook Air with OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 that is dropping connection to a Windows Server 2012 share. The thing is, in this same environment I have a Windows Server 2008 and I've made a test creating a folder and sharing it just for test purpose and my SMB connection on my Macbook didn't drop one single time. I've already tried using cifs, but that worked for some time and the problem came back again.
I've tried using an Active Directory login to connect to this share and that also worked just for some time.
I've also tried creating a file on the OS X to force SMBv1 connection and was no use. I think that this issue is related to Windows Server 2012, because this doesn't happen if I connect to a shared folder in 2008 server, but I'm not sure because I made a test with another macbook and a Windows computer and they work fine. At...
There are currently no logon servers available windows 7
when attempting to login to Windows 7 computer, receive the following message "there are currently no logon servers available to process your logon request" This only happens at the first attempt to login. able to login successfully after 2nd or 3rd attempt. How do I stop receiving the message at the first login attempt?
Self-service password reset - Windows Server
Has anyone come across a way to implement a kind of "self-service" password reset service in a Windows domain, using Active Directory domain services on a Windows Server 2008 R2 or 2012 R2 level?
The reason is simple. We are all to familiar with users forgetting their passwords and asking system admins for a password reset. Now certain circumstances have arisen where it would be a huge help if we could automate this process, same concept like the Forgot your Password? option on websites.
DNS Events - Descriptions Cannot be Found
I recently added two new Server 2012 R2 domain controllers to my domain and they are both DNS servers. When I open the DNS Manager console and navigate to SERVER\Global Logs\DNS Events, all of the events have the following description...
